About Emily Hendrix

I’m a Ph.D. candidate in Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Texas Medical Branch, where I study vaccine-induced immunity to pneumonic plague in the lab of Dr. Ashok Chopra, a leader in microbiology and high-consequence pathogen research. My research focuses on developing and evaluating live-attenuated and adenoviral-based vaccines in high-containment (BSL-3) environments. Alongside this, I’ve gained hands-on experience supporting clinical trial execution through an internship with the Sealy Institute for Vaccine Sciences Clinical Trial Program, where I contributed to IRB submissions, informed consent form development, GCP-aligned documentation, and cross-functional team coordination. With a B.A. in English and 8+ years of research experience, I bring a unique strength in scientific and regulatory writing by translating complex concepts into clear, accurate, and audience-appropriate content. I’ve co-authored peer-reviewed publications, drafted regulatory documents, and developed communication materials for both professional and participant-facing use. I'm passionate about bridging the gap between discovery and implementation and am actively pursuing a career in clinical research operations, with long-term goals in clinical trial management. I’m especially interested in roles that combine scientific rigor with logistical execution and patient-centered outcomes.
