Background
About Emily Hill
Associate Member of IEMA (AIEMA) 2024 From 2018 to 2021 I worked as a Brand Home Lead Guide at Oban Distillery. This was predominantly a customer facing role but I was also responsible for a small team of Tour Guides. My job also involved collaborating on projects with my fellow Lead Guides as well as from other Distilleries within Diageo. I was also fortunate enough to work with the Head of Retail Operations on several projects that were crucial to the opening of the Johnnie Walker Experience in Edinburgh. In 2018 I graduated from the Norwegian University for Science and Technology (NTNU), having achieved my MSc in Environmental Toxicology masters. As part of this, in June/July 2017 I spent 4 weeks in Ny-Ålesund, Svalbard, collecting eider duck eggs for heavy metal analysis and relating this to their migration strategy and overwintering location and this formed the basis of my MSc project, entitled "Exposure of the Common Eider (Somateria mollissima) to toxic elements in relation to migration strategy and wintering area". Additionally, during my Masters I worked as a STEM ambassador, skyping with various schools around the country talking about my experience in the Arctic. This was incredibly rewarding as the children were learning about the Arctic and Antarctic in their curriculum. In June 2016 I completed my degree at the Scottish Association for Marine Science and was awarded a BSc (Hons) Marine Science with Arctic Studies. My BSc dissertation was entitled "Dissolved Rare Earth Elements in the NE Atlantic: Can Rare Earths be used to identify Iceland-Scotland overflow waters?". Research for my dissertation involved partaking in 3 week cruises on the Extended Ellet Line, abord the RRS Discovery.
