Background
About Emily Hoey
Hi! I'm Emily and I'm a counselor at NC State University specializing in career development for university students using a strengths-based approach and relational-cultural model of counseling. 🟠I’ve presented at several regional conferences in North Carolina and throughout the university setting about topics such as employee retention, professional wellness, first generation student success, counseling theory, and the importance of confidence in career counseling. Stay tuned for my national conference debut in June! 🟠I excel in collaborative, student-facing roles working to solve problems of accessibility and preparation for post-graduate life. Main curiosities include: first-year student success, the roles of intersectional identities in career development, and redefining professionalism for 21st century norms and standards of equity. Serving as the primary counselor for first-year students at NC State has allowed me to hone a skillset rooted in empowerment and delivery of information in a clear, concise manner. 🟠My inspirational leadership and deep belief in counseling as a social justice imperative uniquely prepare me to lead motivated teams. Coordinating our Career Ambassador team brings me a lot of joy! I offer a high-energy, person-centered approach to working in program/curriculum design, strategic planning and implementation, public speaking and communication, and career readiness. Most importantly, I constantly seek out opportunities to grow as a professional and as part of a team. I value relationships and maximizing resources to regularly present students with the best options for their holistic success. 🟠Let's talk about the radical potential of every student and how we can work together to mobilize advocacy, enthusiasm, and ambition to help students move from good, to great, to excellent!
