About Emily Johnson

I am a driven, self-motivated doctoral candidate, clinical director, and Marriage and Family Therapy Associate in Lexington, KY. As a doctoral candidate, I study Family Finance and Economics in the Department of Family Sciences at the University of Kentucky. While completing my doctorate work, I focus my research on the intersectionality of family stress and healthcare costs. In addition to my own research, I collaborate with professors and colleagues in further research publications. Furthermore, I act as a teaching assistant for undergraduate courses in the Department of Family Sciences. In my role as a Teaching Assistant, I manage grading, coursework, and guest lecture for the course. As a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate, I work in a private practice setting, building my own client base, and maintaining an appropriate schedule. Regarding my therapeutic approach, which is informed by internal family systems and narrative therapy, I use a client-led approach in session. I have experience and work with individuals, couples, and families from diverse perspectives of orientations and cultural backgrounds. I strive to extend compassion, understanding, validation, and inclusivity within my practice.
