About Emily McDermott

I am an independent cultural producer, writer, and editor focused on visual contemporary art. With over 10 years of experience, my critical writing is frequently published by ArtReview, Wallpaper*, and Frieze. My catalogue essays and exhibition texts have been translated into Japanese, Chinese, Czech, and German. In summer 2023, my book "To Her Credit: Historic Achievements—and the Women Who Actually Made Them Happy" was published by Union Square & Co. As an editor, I work across all scales, from project management to copyediting. I have edited books for TASCHEN, conceptualized and produced special projects for Art Basel and Liste Art Fair Basel, and copyedited texts for David Chipperfield Architects, among much else. I have also produced and moderated numerous artist talks and panel discussions, including a series of 12 talks in collaboration with the online magazine Berlin Art Link and hosted at Soho House Berlin. Beyond this collaboration, other highlights include moderating digital talks for the Berlin Fashion Film Festival and hosting a keynote artist talk with award-winning filmmaker Jenn Nkiru at Ciclope Festival. I am currently Commissioning Editor for Art Basel Stories and Content Strategy Consultant for Liste. I'm always open to new forms of collaboration.
