About Emily Mensing

I am a 3L at Northeastern University School of Law with a focus on public interest and public service. I am passionate about topics of social justice and intersectionality, specifically regarding public criminal defense and post-conviction advocacy as well as gender equity and reproductive justice.This spring, I will be joining the American Civil Liberties Union's Abortion Criminal Defense Initiative (ACLU's ACDI) as a full time legal intern and Spring 2025 PHRGE Scholar to join the work combatting the criminalization of abortion care in states where it is banned or severely restricted.This fall, I am working as a part time legal intern with Reproductive Equity Now to advance access to equitable reproductive care in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Connecticut. My law school experiences include working as a fall 711 Student Law Clerk with the Cook County Public Defenders’ Office Felony Trial Division and a summer legal intern with Legal Aid Chicago’s Children and Families Practice Group. I also worked as a student attorney in the Prisoners’ Rights Clinic at NUSL during the summer semester and subsequently continued this work with a directed study and serving as a teaching assistant. I am also a first generation college student who graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Pittsburgh in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science along with minors in Legal Studies and Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies and an Honors Distinction.
