About Emily Murray

As a PhD researcher on the Youth Climate Justice project within the School of Law at University College Cork, I am exploring the intersection of climate change, public health, and children's rights, specifically the right to a healthy, clean and sustainable environment. My research takes a participatory approach to better understand and integrate the voices and experiences of children/youth involved in climate action to build upon a "post-paternalism" theory where children are claiming their right to be heard and to be involved in decision-making spaces i.e. the justice system. Coming from a medical science and global health background, with research experience in sustainable agriculture, climate governance, emotional-ecological education, and community-based Indigenous methodologies, I love and thrive in interdisciplinary spaces and value research with real-world impact. I appreciate challenge and trying new things, like shifting gears and delving into international human rights law after years of science. I love being in nature, connecting with people from all over and encouraging people to follow their hearts.
