About Emily Padgett

No, Emily. You don’t have one question, you have a million questions. Just one at a time!” was my father’s favorite phrase to say to me growing up. It was always accompanied by a soft yet exasperated smile as I asked yet another question he felt vastly unprepared to try to answer. Growing up, my curiosity was insatiable. I followed my curiosity down every winding path. I wandered across the green meadows of financial policy, down the dark alleys of criminal law, through the mysterious forests of human biology, and everything in between. Before all the classes, the grades and GPAs, the awards, and everything else, I was just a little girl who wanted to know why. The curiosity of my youth that simultaneously impressed and exasperated my parents continues to define the person I am today. I am not entirely sure how I stumbled into Electrical Engineering. As a child, I was sure I was going to be a doctor, receiving stethoscopes and x-ray pictures for Christmas each year. However, after taking an Intro to Signal Processing class on a whim freshman year, I was hooked. Now, I can't stop talking about modulation schemes and never miss an opportunity to discuss a good Fourier Transform. However, my passion for medicine never truly left. I am endlessly fascinated with how the human body interacts with the world around it. I am particularly interested in wireless implantable devices and brain-machine interfaces. Outside of engineering, I am an avid runner, seamstress, and sit com enjoyer! I have completed races of all distances from 1 mile to the marathon and currently have my eye on a 70.3. I have found an amazing community to train with and always strive to challenge myself with new races and time goals. I hope to complete my first full marathon soon, and I dream of one day qualifying for the Boston Marathon. If I'm not running, I also enjoy spending time sewing and crocheting. I love the process of creation in any form, from software and circuit boards, to needle and thread, and beyond!
