About Emily Petersen

I have 8 years of teaching experience both in California and internationally. Throughout my teaching experience, I have found a passion for building students centered, culturally responsive curriculum. I am an optimistic and dedicated professional who believes in the power of a quality education, equity, and serving her community. I have dedicated my life to service and social justice and know that these passions of mine impact the lives of my students and their families. As an educator, my aim is to always create lasting relationships with my students that will, in turn, impact their performance in my classroom. I believe that strong relationships with my students is the key to their success. I constantly seek to educate myself on my students’ complex lives and identities in order to be a culturally responsive, empathetic teacher. One way that I have achieved this is from making it my goal to become fluent in Spanish in order to connect with my students and their families on a deeper level. Overall, it is important to me to create a curriculum focused on injustices, empowerment and service so that our next generation can grow into strong, able individuals who make lasting, positive impacts on their society.
