About Emily Ramirez

Emily Ramirez advocates for social justice at the intersections of race, gender, economic status, public health, and housing. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in public policy (MPP /24) at UC Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy. She is a part-time graduate student researcher at the Ron Dellums Institute for Social Justice supporting a policy team focused on designing a right of return policy recommendation to the City of Richmond as part of a larger project to advance housing justice through a partnership between Just Cities and the City of Richmond. She also works as a part-time Research Data Analyst at ICF where she has worked on several federal contracts to provide technical assistance to the US Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Labor, and Office of Trafficking in Persons. The catalysts for Emily’s work in these spaces are her own experiences with housing insecurity, homelessness, and the community-level impacts of poverty.Emily holds a bachelor’s degree from Cal State Los Angeles and has published research briefs for the Office of Family Assistance, California Department of Transportation, and Berkeley Public Policy Journal. In tandem with policy advocacy, Emily creates art, poetry, and paintings that provoke catharsis and critical dialogue through her lens as an Afro-Latin woman living in America.
