About Emily Shane

I love organizing things, making processes run more smoothly, connecting people to the knowledge, information, and resources they need, and solving puzzles. The highlight of every day for me is completing the NYT Mini Crossword as fast as I can. After getting my bachelor's degree in computer science, I spent a year volunteering abroad, then worked for a while in church administration, and recently headed back to school for a Master's in Library and Information Science, focusing on databases, cataloging, metadata, and taxonomies. Some questions I'd like to continue to pursue: How do the ways that we store, label, and talk about data reflect our values? In what ways could we change the way that we deal with data, information, and knowledge in order to promote inclusion of and respect for the people from and about whom we collect it?
