About Emily Stevensen

I have numerous experiences working with the special needs population from adolescents to adults in the community setting. I have been volunteering with this population for the past two years in settings such as adaptive basketball, volleyball, tennis, cycling, aquatics, painting, arts and crafts, sailing, kayaking, yoga, sound therapy, resource fairs, and vocational settings. I completed my fieldwork internship at Shake a Leg Miami which offers adaptive sailing, kayaking, and powerboat trips. During this time, my focus was with the Marine Hospitality Vocational Program where I worked with adults with special needs and physical disabilities. My role included interviewing participants for the Individual Employment Plan, resume building, typing skills, soft skills, safe boating skills, and overall working with the participants to build their careers and independence. I am in the process of completing my 560-hour internship under a CTRS at the YMCA of South Florida’s Adaptive Recreation Program. During this internship, I worked alongside my supervisor to expand my comprehension of the duties of a CTRS. As I continue on this path, I will sit for the NCTRC Exam and acquire the credentials of a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
