About Emily Wasserman

I graduated with College Honors from Washington University in St. Louis in May 2010, with a major in English Literature and a minor in French. During my time at WashU, I became a member of the International English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta. I also wrote news and feature articles for the university's student newspaper, Student Life. Before my junior year of college, I studied French through Washington University's Intensive Summer Language Institute. This experience inspired me to return to France in September 2010. I spent a year teaching English in three elementary schools and became fluent in French. In August 2013, I completed my master's degree at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. After graduation, I completed an internship at three Chicago-based magazines. I then moved to Washington, DC, where I worked as a News Editor for the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical verticals at FierceMarkets, a B2B e-media company. I moved back to St. Louis in 2016. I worked as a communications specialist at Washington University in St. Louis for several years, creating custom written and digital materials for the Department of Genetics and the Center for Teaching and Learning. I also led a full-scale website redesign and rebranding for the Center for Teaching and Learning before leaving the university for a bit to pursue an opportunity in corporate communications and marketing. I returned to WashU in 2022, when I joined the Department of Pathology and Immunology as Digital Marketing and Communications Manager. Currently, I am the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications for the "In St. Louis, For St. Louis" Initiative in the Office of the Chancellor at WashU. I'm also a St. Louis-based writer with stories featured in St. Louis Magazine, Feast Magazine, and Missouri Life Magazine. I previously contributed to publications including Fodor's Travel, DC Inno, The Southern Illinoisan, and The Riverfront Times.
