About Emma Bates

I have had an admiration of heavy equipment my entire life. Following this desire, I completed the certificate program with TTCC for the Excavator and (TLB) Backhoe. I also acquired an AZ license. Late in 2012 I was introduced to CAWIC, the Canadian Association of Women In Construction. This wonderful organization helps to facilitate relationships between women across all areas of construction and give support and unity to each other. It was there I met a great man from Robar Centre, Paul Hoag. What had begun as possibly upgrading my two certificates to a more competitive level, turned into expanding my educational base from two to six pieces of heavy equipment. In 2013, I completed my certification for those 6 pieces of equipment, and with my AZ license under my belt, I hit the ground running, working to build my experience, resume and reputation that created the foundation for success that I have today. Since 2012 I have worked as a Snow Plow Operator, summer Labourer doing landscaping, planting, grass cutting/trimming. Demolition site work as manual material separation hand, skidsteer and bulldozer operator for site clearing and cleanup. Excavator Operator loading Dump Trucks. Dump Truck Driver hauling sand, stone, rock, clay, dirt and other debris. Also drove Dump Truck for an asphalt company, operating the chute and the rake at times. I have a broad base of experience and am certainly not afraid of hard work, although I prefer to work smart. Safety is of an utmost importance to me for myself and those around me. I make a conscious effort in every day to be sure safe practices are adhered to so we all go home safe. In May of 2018 I embarked on a new adventure and was hired as a casual employee at Arcelormittal Dofasco in MH & L's Transportation Department as a Paling Transporter Operator. These machines are truly impressive, weighing in at 50 ton and hauls 200 ton of steel. I never thought I'd enjoy anything as much as demolition, but here we are.
