Background
About Emma Cape
As an Associate Instructor in Native American Studies at the University of California, Davis, I teach NAS:05 Native American Literature to 25 students, providing them with an intensive focus on analysis of Native American literature and helping them meet their general education requirements. I also create and assess frequent writing assignments to help students develop critical thinking and composition skills within the field of Native American Studies. I am pursuing my Master's Degree in Native American Studies at UC Davis, where I serve on the Native and Indigenous Advisory Committee to the Chancellor, am a member of the Native American Studies Graduate Association Leadership Team, and was co-chair of the 10th Annual Native American Studies Graduate Student Symposium Planning Committee. My research interests include understanding Indigenous material cultures as means of literary production, having presented my work at various conferences and symposia. I graduated magna cum laude from Amherst College, where I double majored in English and American Studies with concentration in Native American Studies, and received several honors and awards for my academic excellence and leadership. I have also completed a community-based American Indian researchers certification and have six months of experience as an independent consultant for the Northern California Indian Development Council, where I conducted culturally sensitive data analysis and produced a needs assessment report for California Indian communities. I take pride in my skills and experience, including but not limited to: communication, time management, leadership, critical thinking and analysis, exceptional writing skills, and interpersonal skills. I am passionate about advancing the field of Native American Studies and empowering Native and Indigenous peoples and communities through education, research, and advocacy.
