About Emma Cargile

Emma Cargile is a fiction writer, essayist, and creative writing instructor by day, Jane Austen scholar, Anglophile, and cinema aficionado, also by day. In 2021, she received her BA in English with a creative writing concentration and a minor in rhetoric from Georgia College & State University. In December of 2024, she received her Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing from the University of St. Andrews in St. Andrews, Scotland, where she lived for two and a half years studying, writing, teaching, and traveling. Now based in Georgia, she remotely teaches writing at Houston Christian University while crafting short stories, essays, and working toward publishing the novel she began as her MFA thesis. Her writing is inspired by stories that feature an overlap in the natural and supernatural, as seen in Borges, Barrie, Lewis, Muriel Spark, Madeleine L’Engle, Ken Liu, Matt Haig, and Erin Morgenstern. She also loves the small, often ironic stories of everyday life, as seen in O’Connor, Austen, Stegner, Amor Towles, Fredrik Backman, Shelby Van Pelt, and Gabrielle Zevin.
