Background

About Emma Cook

I am a 3rd year student studying English Literature (MA Hons) at the University of Glasgow. As an aspiring English teacher, I am seeking opportunities in education. However, I am open-minded in terms of careers and am interested in opportunities within the third sector as well as within written journalism and communications as well as editing and publishing. I have extensive experience as a volunteer literacy and English Literature tutor - tutoring children aged 8-18 in basic literary up to Advanced Higher level. Additionally, I’ve teaching experience as an SSTQ qualified swimming teacher, teaching swimming to all age ranges and abilities, and as training lead for Glasgow Students’ Nightline - leading our training team of training officers in the delivery of volunteer training. In addition, I am very passionate about human rights and social justice issues - especially, intersectional feminist, disability and environmental issues. I have extensive work and voluntary experience - working and volunteering within social care, as a support worker for children with disabilities, and additional support needs, as well as volunteering with Amnesty International, since I was sixteen - rising to the role of Co-Campaigns Coordinator of my school’s society, Chairperson for the Glasgow University Amnesty International society and being elected into the role of Disability Justice Officer and Scottish Representative within Amnesty International UK’s Student Action Network (STAN). I was appointed Editor of my school’s award-winning magazine, “Independent Women”, as well as contributing to the award-winning Glasgow University student newspaper “The Glasgow Guardian”.
