About Emma Daitz

My name is Emma Daitz and I am an academic, writer, and editor based in Cape Town. I have a Masters in Sociology (awarded with distinction) and am currently completing a PhD in Historical Sociology at the University of Cape Town. I am also the UCT project assistant for the Other Universals Project. Over the course of my studies I have held various scholarships and fellowships including an Oppenheimer Memorial Trust fellowship for doctoral studies, a doctoral grant from the Kaplan Centre at UCT, and scholarships both from the National Research Foundation and the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences. I have lectured at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels at UCT since 2018. I have been editing academic monographs and theses since early 2021 when I took a certificate in Grammar for Writers through the South African Writers College. I am currently enrolled at the college for their Copyediting and Proofreading course. I particularly enjoy developmental editing and hope in future to expand into editing fiction. I have subject matter expertise in the fields of South African history, the history of colonial rule in South Asia and Africa, critical race theory, feminist gender studies, archival theory, post-colonial theory, and incipient interests in both psychoanalysis and in the history of Africa and the Indian Ocean worlds pre-1500. I am, however, quite capable and interested in editing projects which fall outside of these areas. I look forward to meeting you and working with you on your project.
