About Emma Jackson

Communications Specialist for the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, a government agency focused on protecting the people, property and natural resources of the Rideau River watershed in Eastern Ontario. I wear many hats: social media co-ordinator, media relations, writer, photographer, videographer and, most recently, drone pilot! My goal is to connect with and provide quality information for residents, municipalities and partners in the Rideau Valley so we can work together to help the watershed thrive. I love to tell stories - good and bad. I love to make connections. And I love making a difference in how we see and treat the natural world we inhabit. I graduated from Carleton University's Bachelor of Journalism program in 2009. I immediately began working for International News Services, a global trade news wire based in Ottawa. I wrote breaking news, features and analyses for trade publications around the world, covering a broad spectrum of industries, some I'd never heard of. I moved to Metroland Media's community newspapers in 2010, covering hyper-local issues in rural south Ottawa for four years before my promotion to city hall reporter. There, I covered all city business for Metroland's 11 Ottawa newspapers. In 2015 I moved to our sister paper, the daily (and now defunct) Metro News Ottawa, where I covered transit and transportation issues in Ottawa for two years.
