Background
About Emma Kell
As a Genetic Counseling Master’s candidate in my final year at the Medical College of Wisconsin, I am deeply committed to my education and training, striving to enrich my clinical skills to enhance patient care through evidence-based practice. My master's thesis examines the impact of updates to NCCN clinical guidelines and provider communication of these changes, with a specific focus on hereditary breast cancer. I aim to highlight the significance of these guidelines and provide insights on how both provider understanding and communication of updated guidelines can be improved to enhance patient outcomes. My clinical experience spans multiple healthcare systems, offering broad exposure to diverse teams and patient populations. I have completed a rotation in pediatric and prenatal genetics with upcoming rotations in public health, oncology, and adult genomics which encompasses a range of specialties including endocrine disorders, HHT, and ophthalmology. These experiences have not only broadened my skill set but also fueled my passion for the field, making me eager to explore a variety of opportunities in genetic counseling. In addition to my graduate training, I hold dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Cancer Biology and Genetics & Genomic Sciences from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. During my time in Birmingham, I conducted research on potential therapeutic targets in NF1 tumorigenesis and was privileged to collaborate with leading investigators and gain invaluable exposure to experiences that propelled me into my graduate training. My evolving expertise and diverse interests drive my excitement to bring my knowledge and enthusiasm to a future genetic counseling role, where I am eager to advance patient care and support impactful developments in the field.
