Background
About Emma Lipscombe
I am passionate about building workers power and empowering people through development and knowledge. I originally became involved in the union world in 2005ish when i became an activist and the steward/delegate. I undertook a union organiser traineeship in 2007 which gave me experience and a qualification in union organising. I was a community organiser for a time, this had a large education component, This is where I feel i found my niche in the union world. I love the union development and education field, I took an adult education for unionists course and developed my skills and experience in this area since 2010."Our job is to help people become truly conscious, to understand the different worlds we live in… It is to teach people how to make up their own minds, and how to take control of their moment. It is to teach choice. It is to help ourselves and others break free from our pasts, plan for the futures we want and resist the futures we do not want. Our job is to teach defiance.' Mike Newman A colleague described my super power as being able to listen to someone talk (or rant) about a subject and turn that conversation into a module with resources.I enjoy engaging with different people, working with people in a way that suits them and working together for change. Three years ago I was successful in getting the newly created role of Staff Development coordinator at E tū. In this time I have worked collaboratively to identify, create and establish a framework for development for E tū staff. This involved designing a framework that allowed staff to engage in development easily and is responsive. Creating a set induction process, undertaking A huge programme of workshop/module writing with colleagues. Modules have been created across all the subject areas you would expect to see on a union training & development programme - Organising principles, bargaining, legal modules, transferable skills (communication, facilitation, coaching, de-escalation etc) diversity and inclusion, internal systems and processes, and digital skills.
