About Emma Nutt

I was first exposed to the optical industry during work experience at my local optometry practice. During this experience I saw firsthand the impact an optometrist can have on a person’s quality of life by improving their sight. I continued working as an optical dispenser throughout high school and Uni holidays which progressively enhanced my optical skills. I was one of 14 optometry students to graduate from Flinders University in 2016 and won the Flinders University Rural and Remote Clinical Optometry Award for my contributions to remote optometry. I was fortunate to win the Brian Holden Vision Institute placement during my studies which took me to remote communities within the Northern Territory. This was an amazing experience and really kick-started my passion for remote optometry services and aboriginal eye care. In the first year of my career I completed a Specialist Certificate in Managing Paediatric Patients online through Melbourne University. This strengthened my knowledge and confidence in behavioural optometry and working with children and special needs populations. I grew up in rural South Australia and strived to return to work in a rural setting. I completed 5 years working across rural and regional South Australia before relocating to the Adelaide Hills in late 2021. My career path changed when I joined Eye Surgeons SA and the Vision Eye Institute team. Working within a fast paced ophthalmology clinic has greatly enhanced my clinical skills and expanded my knowledge in the diagnosis and management of ocular disease.
