About Emma Richardson

I am a musician, educator-researcher based in the Greater Toronto Area. I have a passion for the arts, and I am particularly interested in the interactions and intersections between music, culture, and identity and how this informs the educational experience. I have considerable knowledge and experience in (1) leadership, mentorship, and teaching, and (2) working with a range of individuals with differing conceptualizations of individual identity. Integrity, humility, empowerment, and justice are core values that guide my research, individual philosophy, and teaching practice. I am part of an incredible community of prospective musicians, educators, and researchers that strive to reconceptualize established paradigms and evolve with the rapidly changing world. My mentors, colleagues, and I value the investigation and application of critical social justice pedagogy, constructivist frameworks, differentiated instruction and global competencies. I am honoured to learn and grow with this collaborative community of teachers and learners, gaining new knowledge, experience, understanding, and perspective. I am an advocate for co-authorship of knowledge and experience in the classroom, and I believe in embracing our unique individuality, identity, and perceptions of the self. I am currently a Master of Teaching candidate at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, and I recently graduated with Honours from the Bachelor of Music (BMus- Music Education) program at Wilfrid Laurier University.
