Background
About Emma Ridder
As a Ph.D. candidate and teaching fellow in UCLA's Department of English, my research and teaching centers on 20th-century literature and film, film theory and visual culture studies, gender and sexuality studies, critical theory, and writing pedagogy. I am working on a dissertation titled "Distasteful Sights: On Disgust and Film Form." My research has been partially supported by a 2024-2025 Division of Graduate Education Dissertation Year Award, a 2023-2024 English Department Dissertation Year Fellowship, a 2021 Summer Mentored Research Fellowship, and Conference Travel Awards from the UCLA English Department and Literature/Film Association. At UCLA, I received my M.A. in English and completed graduate certificates in Experimental Critical Theory and Writing Pedagogy, and I am also a Practitioner in the CIRTL@UCLA program. As a teaching fellow at UCLA, I have designed and taught a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses, and I have worked as an Educational Development Fellow in writing pedagogy and graduate/faculty programming for UCLA's Teaching and Learning Center (TLC), as well as a Graduate Teaching and Learning Assistant for IT Services' LMS Transformation Team. At UCLA Humanities Technology (HumTech), I currently work as a Research and Instructional Technologies Consultant and Digital Humanities Graduate Student Researcher for digital humanities projects and Canvas tech support.
