In the brief period that I played recreational roller derby, the thing that I most enjoyed about the game was its collaborative nature. People think I’m joking when I say that; I guess it’s true that there are some things you can only learn by doing. My life experiences have taught me the following about myself:• I care deeply about identifying and developing people’s abilities and connecting them to possibility.• I build collaborative, high-performing teams (see my “Honours and Awards” section ).• I cultivate environments that support belonging, experimentation, growth, and success.• I clarify where individuals/teams/organizations are now, where they want to go, and help them draw their own map for how they’re going to get there.• I love change!Pivoting the skills and experiences from my decade-long career in Indigenous Relations into the field of Human Resources was easier than you may think: communication, relationship and trust-building, consultation, facilitation, collaborative problem-solving, interpreting legislation, policies and regulations, applying adult learning methodologies and a unique experience of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are some of the cross-over I have found between these two fields. I learned so much from and am so grateful to the Indigenous individuals, communities and groups I worked with during my career in Indigenous Relations.
