About Emma Slettebo

The field and practice of social work is something I have always been very passionate about. Specifically with children and teens. Providing assistance in finding resources, counseling, and advocating for a child is something these children do not come across often enough. While also seeing their treatment through until they with persevere on their own. In my college experience I have taken various developmental classes, I have an in-depth understanding about how their brains and bodies are developing. Along with various communication and micro, mezzo, and macro level class, to give me an understanding of everything effecting them in their community and within themselves. I have been working with children since I was in high school, I was an educational aid and nanny for two summers for an eight year old girl, I provided her with school lessons and helped her to better understand her material. While also counseling her on how to focus and stay in control of herself. I have worked in a restaurant for many years. I encounter at least five children throughout a shift and have come to understand how to communicate with them even if they are terrified of me. I plan on earning an internship position while completing my masters and hope to go on to become a case manager working with children and teen, with a social work agency once my master is complete and I have my LSW. Further into my career I also hope to do research on underserved communities and the development of children.
