About Emma Vihervaara

I am a licensed psychologist with a bachelors degree in social psychology. I'm currently working part-time (80%) as a psychologist in the child psychiatry unit at Helsinki University hospital in Finland, while working on a PhD about mentalizing skills and preventing mental illness in schools on the side (20%). My assignments at the child psychiatry unit include psychological assessment and treatment regarding psychiatric and neuropsychiatric diagnoses such as adhd, autism, and mood disorders among children ages 5-13. Earlier I worked as a school psychologist in comprehensive schools and high schools with around 800 students. My assignments in schools included for example: promoting the mental health of students through preventive work in the school community, implementing psychological assessment to improve the understanding and support of student learning, supporting students through individual counselling, and providing consultation for teachers, families and other staff members such as members of the student health care team. I am balancing a busy work life with a spare-time spent enjoying a wide range of sports, exploring the outdoors and seeking new adventures. I have a strong desire to contribute to the greater good through opportunities locally and abroad.
