About Emma Walker

I am a runner, cyclist, and outdoors enthusiast, and graduated from the University of Cape Town with a BSc. Property Studies (Honours) in 2012 focusing on green buildings, green building valuations and sustainability. Currently, I work in the Technical Team at the Green Building Council of South Africa, and have a strong academic and professional background in sustainable economics and green building strategies. I was previously a Senior Sustainability Consultant working in the Built-Environment Space. I am also an Accredited Professional (AP) in the different Green Star fields, namely New Built; Interiors and Existing Building Performance, Net Zero and Sustainable Precincts. I am a motivated, meticulous and diligent individual. Taking pride in my work, I apply a realistic approach to problems, striving for perfection while understanding the importance of pragmatism. I enjoy working in a team, especially when team members’ skills complement my own. I am most satisfied in my work when I can clearly contribute and add value. With my background in property, project management, green building and sustainability I hold a distinct combination of skills and market knowledge that has allowed me to enjoy my time working as a professional in the sustainability and environmental space. I am achievement-focused with a clear commitment to self-development and have a naturally inquisitive and analytical mind-set with a strong desire to produce results in new areas of work. I believe in working in a way which contributes positively to my organisation, ensuring integrity in all aspects of my personal and professional life. I have an excellent understanding of all technical areas related to property and construction, green building and Green Star; this includes energy and sustainability aspects of a building. With a course from Stellenbosch Graduate School of Business in project management as well as 8 active years working as a project manager I have a strong project management background. Coupled with a strong attention to detail, I able to produce deliverables quickly, as well as work on multiple projects at once within a fast paced environment. I have a wide range of technical expertise, knowledge of working with different green building tools and healthy materials and embodied energy carbon calculation experience, to sustainable development, data analysis, project management, research, and Microsoft Excel.
