About Emma Ward

I'm currently in my third professional year of study towards a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Canterbury. Ultimately my goal is to apply innovative, efficacious, and culturally inclusive practices to help address concerns regarding mental health in Aotearoa. However, I am currently seeking employment in Canterbury from November 2022 in the broad field of social work to gain practical experience by supporting and learning from those in my community. In 2022 I have been employed by the University of Canterbury as a Peer Assisted Learning Sessions (PALS) Leader. In this role I have supported students taking first-year psychology courses by providing academic support and aiding in development of the skills required to become successful, independent learners. This position has provided valuable experience in communication, organization, and has helped me establish confidence in a leadership role. Overall, I am passionate about improving mental health in Aotearoa and am particularly interested in culturally inclusive approaches based in positive psychology, as I believe that psychological and social support is not 'one-size fits all' and should be rooted in strengths-based approaches.
