About Emmi Cayer

I am a third year mechanical engineering student studying at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a passion for strategic problem solving in the design, build, test process through a sustainable lens. I am eager to put my technical skills, attention to detail, and creativity to use. I thrive in a fast-paced, innovative, collaborative environment. Currently, I am the president of the Cal Poly Supermileage Vehicle team, where we design, manufacture, test, and race electric vehicles for efficiency. This experience ignited a strong desire within me to translate my academic knowledge into practical application, embodying Cal Poly's 'Learn By Doing' philosophy. Through this team, I regularly use and help others in the use of computer-aided design including SolidWorks and Fusion360. This experience significantly enhanced my capacity for creative engineering problem-solving, both in individual design scenarios and in collaborative, cross-functional efforts." I am also currently a Senior Shop Technician in the Cal Poly Machine shops. Through this experience, I developed practical skills in fabrication and precision machining. As a senior technician, I love training others on machines in the shop and helping other students learn. I furthered my role in the shops by becoming a 3D printing deputy, where I specialize in fixing and helping students with 3D printers in the shop. During my recent project engineer internship with Frank M. Booth, I gained valuable experience working hands-on at job site tours, conducting takeoffs, and creating dimensioned drawings for field foreman to use on-site. My role also involved coordinating with cross-functional teams, which has sharpened my communication and leadership skills. Outside of my studies, I enjoy drawing, backpacking, reading, crocheting, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.
