Pediatric Cardiologist, with research experience in bioinformatics, genetics, epidemiology, and health economics. 1st Postdoc done at Stanford University, CA, 2nd at Helsinki University, Kivelä lab. Inherited Arrhythmia / EP Fellowship done at The Hospital For Sick Children, Toronto. Research focus: the genetic and environmental origins of congenital heart disease. Present work ranges from computational biology and bioinformatics in searching candidate genes associated with congenital heart defects to wet lab work in testing the effect of candidate genes and mutations in iPS cell models. In my PhD I thesis "Very preterm infants in Finland - Use of health care services and economic consequences during the first five years of life" I showed that although the initial care of very preterm born is resource-demanding and costly, these children have good prognosis and they need little health care resources after the initial hospitalisation. When related to the quality of life, the care of very preterm infants is highly cost-efficient. Specialties: Pediatrics, bioinformatics, genetics of congenital heart diseases, health economics. During my thesis work I became an expert in the Finnish national health care registries maintained by THL, Kela, and Statistics Finland.
