Background

About Emory Colvin

I am a nuclear engineer with a diverse background in space applications, nuclear spacecraft, naval nuclear power, health physics, and sonography physics and instrumentation. I am flexible and able to adapt quickly to a wide range of environments. Most of my experience has been in multidisciplinary groups. •I worked with a team at the Center for Space Nuclear Research considering the nuclear, aerospace, safety, and human factors aspects of a LEO to LLO nuclear thermal rocket. In later years, I worked on potential yield of Pu-238 in Idaho National Laboratory's Advanced Test Reactor. •I prepared independently for the ARDMS Sonography Principles and Instrumentation exam and improved the pass rate for students taking the test upon the completion of relevant coursework. •As a shift test engineer candidate and procedure writer with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, I integrated mechanical, nuclear, and electrical systems for testing and worked with project managers to coordinate testing. •Throughout my time at Georgia Tech, I worked with and led crews to the Mars Society’s simulated Mars habitat, the Mars Desert Research Station, which brought together various branches of engineering and science (including electrical and mechanical engineering, radio and communications systems work, human factors, botany, and geology).
