About Emry Mills

Emry is a proud first generation college graduate who is passionate about trauma informed leadership, and making meaningful change in our education system. As a forever learner, she is continually reflecting and growing as a leader, professional, and human. Throughout her career, she has facilitated trainings and sought out the newest data on topics such as social emotional learning, community development, and instructional design. Emry’s interest in flexing her creativity and the human experience led her to major in English Literature and Social and Behavioral Sciences. After graduating, she decided to give back to her community before jumping into a career in education. So, she decided to serve in a secondary public school as a near peer mentor through an Americorps program at City Year Tulsa. After serving with City Year, Emry began teaching ELA at Carver Middle School, where she studied and practiced culturally responsive teaching while learning a new lesson planning style, Middle Years Programme (MYP) lesson planning. This style of teaching promotes interdisciplinary learning, creative thinking, and community connectedness. Currently, Emry is back at City Year Tulsa as an instructional coach. In this role, she coaches and trains staff and AmeriCorps members to ensure the City Year mission is being carried out in our public schools. She provides corps members with the necessary training and resources they need to succeed in the classroom, and trains staff in the skills they need to coach their team to success in academic tutoring and SEL. A few of the skills required for her current role are: Instructional design, knowledge of high impact instructional strategies, facilitation, data collection and analysis, and relationship building.
