About Engelien Scheperkamp

My creativity is like a shadow, it is always there, wherever I go.' Engelien Scheperkamp is a Dutch Designer and artist who lives part of the year with her husband and their dog Yentl in a small wooden house in Loosdrecht. Surrounded by nature, whistling birds and water, she enjoys a quiet, somewhat slowed-down life. Celebrating a grateful life is her biggest inspiration. The love for handmade things, like handcrafted pottery, a drawing on a piece of paper, the re-use of old materials and collaborating with social workplaces are amongst her greatest joy. A balanced quiet life with lots of creativity and being surrounded by family and friends make her a very happy person. As co-founder of her own little label Hills of Hems, her handwriting is stylish and recognisable through its calm colour palette. The joy and happiness can be seen in everything she designs for the growing label. That calm feeling clearly stands out from Laura Ashley's rich use of colour. With great passion and enthusiasm, she has been developing beautiful ranges of Collectables for this iconic brand for many years. Around the world, the floral tableware by her hand is commissioned by Laura Ashley. Nature is her greatest inspiration, the colours, the shapes and the beautiful seasonal changeovers feed her creativity every day. The few years she lived in Switzerland certainly contributed to this, the views from her little village of the mountains, forests and meadows were never the same, but more like a constantly changing painting.
