Background
About Eoghan P. Holohan
I research gravity- and magma-driven deformation of the Earth's crust. In particular, I examine subsidence phenomena such as collapse calderas in volcanic regions and sinkhole development in karst regions. I seek to integrate field-based studies and remote sensing data with experimental and numerical modelling approaches. My current focus is on Distinct Element Method modelling of subsidence-related faulting and its relationship to geophysical and geodetic signals in volcanic and karstic regions.Teaching interests and experience include: structural geology, tectonics, volcanology, geological mapping and fieldwork-skills, graphical presentation of scientific data and concepts, and science communication and scientific writing. I also mentor several young scientists at undergraduate, postgraduate and postdoctoral levels.Specialties: Structural geology of volcanic and magmatic systems, Ground instability and subsidence in volcanic regions, karst areas, and peatlands. Numerical and experimental modelling of geological processes, Geological mapping and fieldwork, Research project management and science communication.
