About Eric Anderson

In April 2010 I was a young man who had hopes and dreams to receive my degrees in business administration and computer science from Michigan State University. It was all taken away from me 2 weeks before finishing my first year of community college when I was wrongfully imprisoned with a primary charge of armed robbery.Later that year in November 2010, I was sentenced to 15-22 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections for crimes I did not commit. My life was totally different than what I envisioned and I was left by myself to pick up the pieces. I constantly faced mixed feelings and controversy while there, but I stayed focused and positive through it all because I was fighting for my freedom and there wasn’t much room to be emotional and stressed. I had a goal to reach! After 9 years of my sentence, I finally reached the goal and on April 30, 2019 I was exonerated (deemed innocent and freed). I was blessed to have had the University of Michigan Innocence Clinic on my team also with the support of the Wayne County Conviction Integrity Unit. I thank all that supported me during that trying time in my life and to all those that put time and effort to see that I was freed at last.Today I stand on the very thing that kept my sanity and that is my positivity. It is not fair for any man or woman to spend time in a cage for anything in which they did not do. Justice always wins in the end. I will give all I have to be the change in the world that I want to see for myself, my children, and all generations after. Now who’s with me?
