About Eric Arets

I am a tropical forest ecologist at Wageningen Research. My main field of expertise originally is in tree population dynamics to assess sustainable forest management options. Since working at Wageningen Environmental Research, the focus of my research has broadened including interactions between land-use, climate change and ecosystem services and biodiversity. I work on a broad range of policy support projects and assessments related to sustainable use of natural resources, on climate change adaptation and mitigation and on competing claims on natural resources. During two years I was seconded to the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) where I worked on a global biodiversity model and on species distribution models in relation to climate change. As a result I have experience with quantifying impact of land-use and climate change on biodiversity and specific ecosystem services as well as with applying assessments for policy support and land-use planning.
