About Eric Bohner

Regardless of the role I currently occupy, I am, and always will be, a philosopher at heart. I'm interested in the whys, the oughts, and the ought nots, and I care that the reasons we give for those are compelling. I care a great deal about policy, especially data governance given my current role, and I like to discuss whether current policies are sufficient to meet our needs. For the most part, I'm here to work on interesting projects. I want to use my skills to solve the problems that are preventing goals from being achieved. The bigger the goal, the better. In my current position, I do that by developing automated solutions to reporting needs by creating Power BI dashboards that provide the information people need (utilizing the 3/30/300 design principle), while making it look good enough that people want to use it (usually with the help of Figma). I find that many Data Analysts neglect the latter half of that equation in favour of getting the relevant information in front of the user. That's a mistake; a dashboard is only useful when it is used, and if it's ugly the intended users simply will not. My communication skills are also on point. From my PhD, I've picked up the ability to identify salient details, condense complicated subjects into comprehensible points, and communicate solutions or recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
