About Eric Braun

One of my fondest memories is from when I was ten, and my grandfather asked me to pay attention to a garden hose as he turned on the tap. I dutifully analyzed the hose and noticed that it had expanded circumferentially and contracted along its length. After telling my grandfather what I had observed, he explained the Poisson ratio to me, thus planting the seeds of engineering interest in my mind. Ever since, I have nurtured this interest. Through my graduate research and recent work experiences, I have developed and honed my abilities in engineering, data analysis, and fluid dynamics. Some of my key accomplishments include leading the research and development of a leak detection system for multiphase pipe flows, devising a novel analytical method for estimating vortex strengths, creating low-order models that retain key dynamics while reducing complexity, and implementing convex optimization and machine learning techniques to create predictive flow models and detect anomalous flow. In addition to improving my analytical expertise, the self-directed nature of much of my work has expanded my project and time management skills, as well as my ability to effectively communicate complicated problems to diverse audiences. Issues of sustainability interest me greatly and I strive to employ my engineering skills for the betterment of society and the environment.
