About Eric Busby

I have experience working with teens, adults, and elderly populations from diverse cultural backgrounds (racial, ethnic, sexual and gender identifications) within individual and group psychotherapy settings - in short, folks who are in various seasons of life across a wide range of developmental stages. I believe that no one is immune to imbalance, stress, and various barriers to health, and that therapy is a tool to help navigate these confusing times. Change can be challenging, if not quite painful and scary, and I believe that a healthy, strong therapeutic alliance is the bedrock of healing in the psychotherapy context where a sturdy scaffolding may be built. There are numerous things that we cannot change in our lives, but through support we are able to develop greater awareness of our selves and nurture resilience that, I believe, we each have an ability to access. I am devoted to fostering healing and growth with peoples whom I serve through gaining insight and improving their functioning in meaningful ways. I frequently work with people who experience challenges with perfectionism, concerns within relationships, traumatic experiences, anxiety, depression, emotional disturbances, chronic illness, in the midst of a crisis, personality conditions, grief, adjustment difficulty, concerns with personal belief systems, concerns with identity development, and poor/maladaptive coping. I utilize a Humanistic/Existential approach to counseling and my practice is grounded in the necessity of a trusting and safe space (as the nature of conversations which are had in therapy can be quite uncomfortable and unsettling). Through this, I hope that one may feel accepted and supported as they are in the process of navigating their path. Other areas of interest to me are personality and identity development, attachment theories, psychoanalysis and its varying applications, spirituality, philosophy, and clinical supervision.
