Programming, to me, is a way of being able to write a book about anything you can imagine, and then actually seeing that book come to life." To me there is no greater sense of accomplishment than building something. Before I discovered programming my desire was to become a concept artist as I would be able to create things that couldn't exist in our universe. Once I discovered coding however, I realized that instead of dreaming up concepts, I could actually build them. That was the moment I decided I wanted to be a software engineer. I love overcoming complex challenges in unique and creative ways. While working on my degree, professors consistently commented that my code was very well structured and that my solutions to problems were often more elegant than they had expected. During my senior year my team and I developed and built an open source operant conditioning box for use by the University's psychology department in order to cut the cost of their equipment. The ROBucket we created successfully cut the departments spending on equipment by 96%, reducing the cost of equipment from around per box to around $200. While finishing my degree I worked full-time at Best Buy in the computing department, where I was constantly commended by leadership for my ability to deliver results while growing as both a sales associate and as a person. I was often groomed for leadership positions, even though my long term goals of software development were well known, and often found myself stepping into leadership situations temporarily in order to resolve problems. I was also recognized for having the highest customer satisfaction rating for the entire store 3 years in a row having received almost unanimous 100% feedback from my clients (over 3 years I received only 1 passive and no negative customer surveys). I was also the go-to associate whenever a customer was interested in any form of PC gaming or specific software questions.
