About Eric Furtado

Hardworking, professional and passionate individual with a love for science and technological innovation. I live in Toronto (GTA) and study at Ryerson University. I have acquired many useful skills in the applied sciences and am eager to put them to use and make a positive impact on your company. I am pursuing a career in the aerospace industry, more specifically advanced manufacturing, or space robotics systems. I am very interested in the engineering design process and I am not afraid to get my hands dirty as I have spent a lot of time in the machine shop. I have developed proficiency in computer-aided design software such as Solidworks (officially certified), MasterCAM, AutoCAD, Matlab with Simulink, LabVIEW, ANSYS etc. as well as skills in programming (in C) and control systems. My most recent experience would be my Master's degree at Ryerson. I am part of a team of researchers working alongside Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Canada Aerospace (MHICA) to automate the assembly of aircraft wing structures. Back in 2017, I co-lead a team of students at Ryerson Rams Robotics that developed, built, and tested a Mars rover, competing at URC 2017. Being our first year at the international competition, we placed an amazing 14th overall. Our suspension and drive-train design grandfathered subsequent years at this competition, with a steady improvement in performance. Reading and research is another passion of mine, as my cluttered bookcase speaks for itself. I believe that curiosity, and the pursuit for knowledge is what drives our civilization to strive to make the impossible possible. I am determined to join the global effort for innovation and a better future. Finally with a few words from the late Carl Sagan to sum up my determination and passion for STEM:"Not explaining science seems to me perverse. When you're in love, you want to tell the world."
