Background
About Eric Galbreath
I began my manufacturing journey in Western Pennsylvania, deeply influenced by the region's industrial history. After studying Mechanical Engineering and Metrology, I started as a Tool and Die Maker at Oberg Industries, where I learned that the quality of a product starts with precision. Over the years, I advanced from Supervisor to Manager, and eventually Vice President, where I led teams that blended traditional craftsmanship with innovation. My core drive is to make a lasting impact—whether through products supporting our military or by developing the next generation of skilled workers. I believe manufacturing is the backbone of innovation. Whether working with **OEMs** or designing mission-critical components for the **Department of Defense**, my focus has always been on creating reliable, high-performing products that stand the test of time. But I’ve come to realize that **workforce development** is just as vital as product innovation. We need a skilled, adaptable workforce to drive the industry forward. This insight led to the creation of the **DLA Competency-Based Apprenticeship Program**, designed to close the skills gap and train workers who can step into multiple roles across the manufacturing floor. Unlike traditional apprenticeships, which focus on hours worked, this program emphasizes **competency**, ensuring workers are ready for the complexities of modern manufacturing. Innovation is also a driving force in my career. One example is a **patent for a water filtration design**, developed after extensive testing uncovered a design flaw. Our solution improved product reliability, reduced maintenance costs, and saved the company millions. This was a practical, real-world application of engineering expertise to solve a significant problem. Beyond my work in manufacturing, I’ve always been passionate about mentoring the next generation. Whether through teaching **Tool and Die** programs, coaching high school robotics competitions, or creating DLA competency-based training programs, I’ve seen the power of hands-on learning and the importance of fostering a mindset that sees failure as a learning opportunity. We must innovate, adapt, and develop a workforce that can keep pace with emerging technologies. My mission is to ensure that manufacturing is not just a job—it’s a calling, a chance to contribute to something bigger than ourselves. Through innovation, education, and workforce development, we can build a resilient, adaptable manufacturing sector, ready for the future.
