Background
About Eric Gardner
Hello, I'm Eric Gardner, Code Supervisor for the City of Austin’s Development Services Department.Honored to be a community leader in this great city. Our city is home to engaged, compassionate, creative, and independent thinking people, where diversity is a source of strength and where we all have the opportunity to fully participate and fulfill our potential.I was born in San Antonio and Moved to Austin in 2001 while I was working as a construction supervisor in the new-home building Industry during the explosive growth session of the greater Austin Area that was happening at that time. I was proud to be a part of the development of many cities like Kyle, Buda, Bee Caves, Lakeway, Leander, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Temple, Georgetown, and Austin Proper, building thousands of homes a year. The housing market crash of 2008 provided me an opportunity to explore another career path I had always been interested in, law enforcement. I explored several agencies and eventually found myself working as a Deputy for San Juan County Sheriff's Office. Family needs brought me back to Austin and I started working as a Park Ranger in New Braunfels and it was a job I truly loved every aspect of, but the need for a larger salary required me to pursue a position I could make a career out of and one that could support me and my family. I looked into the Austin Code Department and learned all that it was about and saw that it was a perfect fit and somewhere that would allow me to apply my construction and law enforcement backgrounds. After a brief stint working for the city as a Security Guard, an opening at the Code Department finally became available in 2017, and I've been here ever since. I truly enjoy working for this department and serving the community of Austin, and I look forward to doing so for many years to come.
