Background
About Eric Guillot
Eric is a meteorologist and project manager with over nine years of experience supporting the National Weather Service. Eric works for the Analyze, Forecast, and Support (AFS) Office in the Forecast Services Division (AFS2), specifically the Severe, Fire, Public, and Winter Weather Services Branch (AFS21). Eric is a Winter Program Coordinator and is responsible for research to operations activities and also training needs related to winter for field forecasters. Eric has five years of experience working for the NWS Office of Observations and AWIPS Program Office. He managed projects with various NWS Weather Forecast Offices, River Forecast Centers, and National Centers, maintaining National Weather Service Virtual Lab Communities, and preparing NWS forecasters for the GOES-16 and JPSS satellite data. Because of Eric's pioneering work with GOES-R use cases at NWS, he is also tasked to work for NWS' AWIPS Program Office to assist with their migration from the N-AWIPS system to the AWIPS-II system. Eric also earned a M.S. Certificate in Systems Engineering Practice from Colorado State University in 2017. Eric also has two years of experience issuing real-time geostationary satellite data products in high-stress, time sensitive situations. Specific product areas include tropical cyclone intensity using the Dvorak Technique, volcanic ash advisories and forecasts, and marine debris identification. Eric is skilled in IDL and Perl, with a working knowledge of Matab and FORTRAN. Eric's graduate research involved creating and statistically evaluating cloud nowcasting techniques using the MODIS sensor on the Terra and Aqua satellites. This work was published in the April 2012 edition of the AMS Weather and Forecasting journal.
