About Eric Huang

Eric Huang is an LA based film composer currently attending USC’s Thornton School of Music for a master's in film scoring. During his undergrad at UC Santa Barbara, he has played in a brass trio and the university wind ensemble. Since the first film he scored in 2020, Eric has written music for 37 short films working with film students from UCSB, USC, UCLA, CSUN, and UC Davis. He has conducted and recorded 23 soundtracks in spaces such as the John Williams Scoring Stage at USC, the UCLA scoring stage, and EastWest Studios Studio One (where the themes for The Godfather and the original Mission Impossible were recorded) and Studio Two (where some music for Encanto was recorded) in Hollywood. Additionally, in 2022 Eric won Best Original Score for the short film "Fleeting" at the LA Cinematography Awards film festival and his music was heard in the TCL Chinese Theatre during the screening of the short film "With Love, Eli". In a few days, he'll be the composer in residence for the Jackson Symphony in Tennessee and his 16-minute orchestra piece, The Odyssey, will be performed on their opening night concert on September 16th. Eric loves working with filmmakers and musicians since the collaborative aspect is what draws him to film scoring. Additionally, film scoring helps him think outside the box and venture into new ways of creatively conceptualizing the music to fit the story. While Eric loves writing for standard ensembles like orchestra and string quartet, he also enjoys incorporating unconventional instrument combinations and sounds. Examples include Lady Scout Cookies (operatic vocals, guitar, and marching percussion), Fatherhood (bottle blowing sounds and choir), The Stall (metal closet banging), and Mannequin Museum (creaking floors slowed down and shouting into a piano).
