I feel fortunate every day to help improve how healthcare works by shifting the focus away from a primarily reactive approach and more towards a preventive approach. The healthcare system desperately needs to get "Ubered". By working in group healthcare, group wellness, health policy, corrective exercise, chronic pain relief, injury prevention and senior fall prevention, my path in this healthcare career includes a unique combination of specialties and perspectives. This blend provides a great opportunity to merge areas that are not nearly as intertwined as they should be. I currently have facilities in Southern California called Human Movement Lab working with the best movement professionals in the world to address chronic pain, injury and surgery rehab/prevention. Our client outcomes are extremely positive and encouraging. Separately, since 2004 I have been helping large companies choose the best healthcare options - and the main conclusion from this 12 year group healthcare experience is that unless there is a huge prevention component to any health program, you are basically just over-analyzing your seat selection on the Titanic. It has been exciting to see the emergence of wellness companies over the last 5-10 years. They provide an essential missing piece to the healthcare puzzle. But even the best wellness companies, while doing great work with chronic diseases prevention, are lacking significantly on the pain, injury, and musculoskeletal side. There is usually not much more than free pedometers and discounted gym memberships. This is where Human Movement Lab is bridging the gap between group healthcare/wellness and education, rehab, and prevention of pain and injury. Our plan is to expand the number of facility locations and continue to build relationships with both the most innovative and forward thinking wellness companies and creative businesses that understand the importance of prevention and health education for their employees.
