About Eric Kolaczyk

I am a Professor of Statistics at McGill University, in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics, where I am also the inaugural director of the Computational & Data Systems Institute (CDSI) at McGill. I am also an associate academic member at Mila, the Quebec AI Institute. Previously (~25 years) I was on the faculty at Boston University where, among other things (and not all at once!), I served as Director of the Hariri Institute for Computing, founding director of the MS in Statistical Practice (MSSP) program, director of the Program in Statistics, and affiliated faculty in the Division of Systems Engineering, the Bioinformatics Program, and the Program in Computational Neuroscience. Broadly speaking, my research is focused at the point of convergence where statistical and machine learning theory and methods support human endeavors enabled by computing and engineered systems, frequently from a network-based perspective of systems science. I have served as associate editor of 8 different journals, in data science/mathematics, engineering, network analysis, and statistics. I previously co-chaired the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine Round Table on Data Science Education. And I am an elected fellow or member of 4 different societies ASA, IMS, and ISI).
