About Eric Leon

I am a Physics Ph.D pre-candidate at the University of Michigan and an alumnus of Brigham Young University-Idaho with a deep passion for particle physics and scientific outreach. I currently work with the LZ collaboration at the Sanford Underground Research Facility searching for Dark Matter. I have gained experience with the GRACE/GRACE-FO experiment at NASA Goddard leveraging Machine Learning algorithms for anomalous signal detection. I have also gathered relevant research experience with an REU program sponsored by the University of Notre Dame, where I worked with simulations of the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) at Fermilab. During my time as an undergrad, I worked with two teams on campus at BYU-Idaho: the High-Altitude Research Team (HART) and the Positron Annihilation Spectroscopy Team (PAST). In the HART, I acted as Vice President and helped direct atmospheric research and collect data from student-made detectors. In PAST, I was the Communication Liaison. As such, I collaborated with our client at the Idaho National Lab, to whom we reported our research. I also completed a semester as an Adjunct Professor of Physics at BYU-I. I actively seek opportunities to advance my career and research experience by learning more about my desired fields. I enjoy learning about math and science, new languages, and any skill that can help me be a contributing team member and productive scientist.
