About Eric Lian

Raised in a small rural fishing community nestled in the east side of Prince William Sound in Alaska; provided great opportunities and experiences that shaped who I am today. At the age of 13 I spent my summers working on my family's fishing boat. After graduating highschool in 2001 from Cordova School District; I ventured outside the state and attended WWU beginning Fall 2001, then Bellingham Technical College beginning Fall 2002. In 2003, while at BTC I earned welding certifications in structural stick & MIG. In 2004 I transferred to WSU-Pullman where I earned a BS in Political Science - Magna Cum Laude conferred in 2007. Prior to completing my BA, in 2005 I bought my own fishing operation. Starting in January 2008 I began substitute teaching during my off season from commercial fishing. October 2010 I opened a marine survey business, after training and mentoring by my father, focusing on C&V surveys for the PWS fishing fleet. Summer 2018 I attended UAA to pursue my MAT, unforeseen circumstances halted the pursuit. October 2020 I attended Alaska Nautical School. Through ANS's program I successfully applied for my Masters 50T NC license. In August 2022 I attended SeaSchool Alabama and sucessfully applied for my Able Bodied Seaman (min Special), STCW BT, and PSC / Lifeboatman credentials. In October 2022 I briefly worked as an AB, as a fill in, to help a transport / barge company finish its season in Cook Inlet. In December 2022 I placed my survey business on hold to pursue working with PeopleAK. Through my course of life my top three soft skills I feel describe me best are: a strong work ethic, great at time management, and honest.
